Minimum Qualifications
Engineer B
Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
- Graduation with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job, plus eight (6) years of engineering experience acquired before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer.
Licenses or Certifications:
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas; or if currently licensed in another state, must have the ability to obtain a Texas P.E. license within six (6) months of employment.
Engineer C

POSITION OVERVIEW :
This position is for a full-time floodplain engineer located within the Watershed Protection Department ( WPD ) who will work closely with the Development Services Department ( DSD ) as a member of the Floodplain Development Review Team. As a member of the City's multi-disciplinary team of reviewers, the floodplain engineer will be responsible for the review of development applications including subdivisions, subdivision preliminary plans and final plats, residential building permits, site plans and related construction documents. The reviews will focus on whether the development applications meet the requirements of the City's floodplain regulations. This often will require coordination with applicants to guide them in the requirements of the floodplain regulations and in how these requirements can be satisfied for a given development.
This position requires working in a deadline focused environment. Qualified candidates will possess the required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience to perform the essential functions of the job.
In addition to Floodplain-related duties the position will support other reviews within the Development Review Coordination Section.
PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION / LICENSE :
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Texas; or if currently licensed in another state, must have the ability to obtain a Texas P.E. License within six (6) months of employment.
SALARY :
Engineer B: $36.95 to $47.12 per hour
Engineer C: $38.78 to $50.42 per hour

TRAVEL :
If you are selected for this position, and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

Hours
40 hours per week, Monday - Friday with the ability to telework with supervisor approval.
May require working outside of normal business hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as dictated by business needs.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience:
- Experience leading engineering staff including: assigning and monitoring of work activities, creating and implementing employee development plans, and providing coaching and feedback.
- Candidate should be able to demonstrate extensive knowledge of hydrologic and hydraulic modeling techniques, including two dimensional modeling, for floodplain studies and drainage design.
- Demonstrate knowledge of, and experience working with, the development and development permitting processes. Knowledge of the City of Austin floodplain regulations and drainage criteria manual.
- Ability to exercise good judgement and diplomacy in contentious situations and to maintain confidentiality as required.
- Applicant is a Certified Floodplain Manager.
- Possess strong communication skills in writing, reviewing and interpreting technical documents and speaking before a non-technical audience.
